Bonjour…

I’m currently gearing up to visit my brother in Paris for three weeks of photography and adventuring around Europe. It’s been a long time since I made it out of the country so this should be great. I’m bringing a couple cameras (including the Pentax 67 which I finally repaired) and will be documenting the trip thoroughly. For those of you who are fans of my brother, Zach you’ll get your fill I’m sure.

Adventures in the high seas

After two months and four voyages aboard a small sword fishing vessel, traversing the entire east coast of North America, from the Flemish Cap to off of Florida, I’m finally home in Brooklyn.

Late September I arrived in Trepassey, Newfoundland and boarded the F/V Big Eye. Days prior I had been asked to shoot sword fishing for Discovery’s second season of Swords, Life on the Line. Me and one other shooter/producer were tasked with documenting two trips on the small 53’, fiberglass vessel with Captain Chompers, his brother and 1st Mate, Woody and three of their longtime fishing brethren, Don, Glen and Mullet. Here’s the Captain and Woody last year on the Big Eye:

We made four trips starting on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, moving south to George’s Banks and eventually east of the the Gulf Stream off Florida. Our first voyage took us to the Flemish Cap where the Andrea Gail was caught in the Perfect in October of 1991.

Our last voyage lasted 21 days and took us from New Bedford, MA to close to Bermuda to east of the northern tip of Florida; through shark invested waters and even through Hurricane Ida.

(we were just east of that little red “L,”  with the swirling red arrows).

This is what it looked like on the boat last season when the seas got rough:

Thankfully nothing catastrophic happened and we eventually pulled into port in Cherry Point, SC on Nov. 25th. We filmed the offload of the trips catch, I said my goodbyes to the crew of the Big Eye and I was able to go home for the first time in months.

It’s good to be home and enjoying dry land.
